I began shooting pictures at age eight, when my parents handed me a cheap 110mm camera and told me to go nuts. I was thrilled because I was at that age where I wanted to be treated more like an adult and cameras were things that adults used. Even better, cameras had buttons and buttons were things adults pressed. Throughout my childhood in Ohio, I shot pictures of just about anything I could, but my default models were our family dogs. Smokey and Brownie were the only ones who never yelled at me when I appeared out of nowhere, snapped a picture, and then ran off like a lunatic.
I turned eighteen and left Ohio for Boston University where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Film and Television. After college, I went on to earn a Masters degree in Theatre from the University of London. My education highlighted the myriad ways in which ideas and feelings can be expressed through art and how, with the right viewpoint and attitude, art can be found nearly anywhere.
After graduate school, I settled in San Francisco and began focusing more intensely on my photography. I now shoot with professional grade digital SLR cameras and edit my work in various editing suites. I love the thrill of capturing a moment in time, a detail that would otherwise go unseen, or giving a new perspective to the everyday. And-- I can't lie-- I still love pushing buttons.
I hope you enjoy Studio VoxPop and consider adding a piece of art to your home or sitting for a personal portrait session. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. Drop me a line using the e-mail link below.
